Dear St. John's
Parishioner,
Church Building
Update Two committees
have been formed as part of the Executive Build Team. The
Bricks and Mortar committee will be involved with the
physical aspect of the project. The Vision and Data
committee are involved with determining existing and
expanding ministries of St. John's along with space
needs.
The vision and data committee will be
releasing a questionnaire in late August asking for your
opinion on the project and ministries at St. John's. Data
collected will be summarized and the findings released in
the end of September. This is the first step in planning a
new building.
Various contractors have been called in
to submit bids for new boilers in the Parish hall and
education building. We will have the proposals ready for the
congregational meeting on August 16 to vote on.
The
church basement is being cleaned and organized for a large
garage sale. The date has not been set as of
yet.
Utility companies will be called this coming
week to either shut off, or give us an estimate on
relocating the utilities from the church. Many of the main
utilities to the complex come through the church building
since it was the first built and then get distributed
through the rest of the complex.
The church organ
will be moved out of the church the weeks of August 17
through the 29th. Niagara Organ Works, who has been handling
our organ needs over the past years, will be storing the
organ at their location in Tonawanda. Approval for this
contract will be voted on at the Congregational meeting in
August. We need volunteers to help will labor during this
time. If you can spare a day or two please sign up. We will
also need some carpenters to remove the grills off the organ
chambers. Any amount of help that we can provide will cut
down on the overall cost of the project.
A section of
brick on the curved wall at the back of the church continues
to moves. Fencing will be installed around the church to
protect people and vehicles. Parking along the back of the
church building should be avoided.
The physical
planning of the church building is scheduled to start in
January of 2010. At that time we will be working with all of
you and Betsy Williams, An ELCA staff Architect, to put our
dreams on paper.
A signup sheet will be in the
Narthex this weekend for volunteers for various sub
committees. Please take some time and stop by to put your
name on one or more of the lists. Thank
you, Rick

St. John's
Web Store
We hope that you have taken
the opportunity to visit the St. John's Web Store, and more
important, that you have ordered one or more products from
the store. As stated in last month's Newsletter, our store
is an affiliate of the well known Amazon.com on-line store.
St. John's receives a commission from Amazon on every item
sold through the store.
To clarify a possible misconception, when
you enter our store, you are actually purchasing products
directly from Amazon.com. Every item is processed by them,
from the ordering process through shipping. No member of the
St. John's community is involved with the processing of your
order. Everything involving your order is confidential with
Amazon, including credit card information and the identity
of the purchaser. The only information we receive from
them is a daily report of the items ordered and our
commission for each item.
We have added some new features to the introductory
page leading to the store. There is now a search
box, where you can search for any particular product in the
entire store, not just by category. We have also added
Amazon's " Special Deals of the Day", where
you can find great bargains on a variety of products. There
are three different types- "Deal of the Day", "Lightning
Deals", and "Our Best Deals". Be sure to check them all out
by moving your mouse over the appropriate deal located
on the left side of the "Special Deals" box. Finally, we
have added "Amazon Video On Demand", where you
can order an assortment of videos for immediate viewing
directly from the introductory page.
It's hard to believe, but school bells will be ringing
again soon. Check out some great "Back to School" specials
now available at the store. Click on the "Back to School
Savings" and "College Essentials" banners near the bottom of
the introductory page.
The success of our store depends on all
members of our Congregation promoting the store to their
family, friends, and associates. Please spread the word
that our store is open. By purchasing products through our
store, not only will shoppers get exactly the same products
and pricing they would get by purchasing through Amazon
directly, they will be making a very important contribution
to our fund raising projects for our new Church building, at
no additional cost to
them.

Thought of the
Day
Hope is like a river, it keeps you moving
on, pulls you through the troubled waters, helps you
reach the calm. Where it leads, you will
follow, rounding every bend, the river moves you
forward, the river does not end. There is always
something new to find, friends to meet, sights to
see. Hope is like a river,
it keeps you moving on.
So don't give up, keep moving on,
turn the darkness into dawn. Hope is like a
river, it keeps you moving on.
