From the Pastor

From the Pastor

‘Peter knew what it meant to really screw things up and be given grace. That is to say, he knew about binding and loosing. When he denied his teacher, friend and Messiah — when he showed a complete failure of nerve the night Jesus was killed — I can only imagine the self-loathing that ensued. I can only imagine how hard it was to make eye contact with Mary Magdalene the next day. How hard it was to even get out of bed. He was in a prison of his own making and needed to be freed. He needed someone with the keys to let him out. He didn't need a therapist or a new elimination diet or a book on the power of positive thinking.
He needed forgiveness.
The church of Jesus Christ could only be built on someone who knew what it felt like to be in that much need of forgiveness.
I just want to make a case for we the church not forgetting that confessing our faith is deeply connected to confessing our need for grace.
Because, there is loosing to be done in this world. We are bound by our failures and missteps and the words we said in our worst moments. They form the bars in our spiritual prison cells. And we gotta take the keys out whenever we can and free each other — remind each other that we are forgiven.
We need to be loosed. Loosed from that which weighs us down, our sin, shame, and despair.  Loosed from us our pride, anger and resentment and guilt for not being able to live up to even our own values.”

Koffee Klatsch Volunteer Teams Needed

Our congregation celebrates our German roots continuing the German tradition of Koffee Klatsch every Sunday morning. A Koffee Klatsch is a social gathering for informal conversation at which coffee is served! We love it! We are looking for 2 teams to set up and clean up our Koffee Klatsch on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month. What does it entail? Setting up the coffee, hot water, cups, coffee condiments and supplying any breakfast snacks. Juice or water is set out as well. This is done at 9 to ensure the coffee is ready by 9:45. The area is then cleaned up around 10:25. Tear down includes cleaning and putting everything away, wiping the tables and sweeping the parish hall floor. Currently our Choir members cover the 1st Sunday of the month and our Altar Guild covers the 4th Sunday of the month. If you’d like to volunteer, we have a calendar available in the Parish Hall. We’ll be sure to show you where all the supplies are located and that you are trained on how to use the coffee pots, etc. Thank you for volunteering!

A sign up sheet is in the Parish Hall. Any questions please ask Kathy Moody

Coffe Mug Tree

Coffe Mug Tree

Coffee Mug Trees - CLAIM YOUR MUG 3/16 & 3/17

Almost 2 decades ago, we installed our coffee mug trees, just inside the kitchen door!

The purpose was simple: Bring in your own coffee mug for use during Koffee Klatsch on Sunday mornings - we’d reduce our use of styrofoam and paper coffee cups. After enjoying your coffee, you would wash your mug and hang it back up on the tree.

We have an overabundance of mugs on the trees that are not  being used. The weekend of 3/16 & 3/17, we’re cleaning up our coffee mugs. We’re asking you to claim your mug to keep it on the tree. The mugs will be taken down and placed on a table in the parish hall. To claim/keep using your mug, please place it back on the tree in the kitchen. If you would like to bring in a mug to use on Sunday mornings, please bring a mug in and place it on the tree that same weekend, or any weekend afterwards. We’d love to continue to cut our dependance on disposable products. Any mugs still remaining on the table after services on 3/17 will be donated. Thank you so much! If you are unable to make it to church that weekend, please call the office before then to claim your mug.

Pastor Vacation

Pastor Valerie will be on vacation starting Thursday March 14th through Friday March 22nd.
