John 14:1
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, also believe in me.

When we were growing up we all experienced occasions when we had some doubts about things happening in our lives. Sometimes it involved some of our friends (could we count on them), or family members (would they be there when we needed them), or situations in school (sometimes learning didn’t seem to be going as well as we hoped it would), or trying out for various sports teams (will I be good in this sport, can I make the team). So at that time in our life when we experienced a variety of doubts about life experiences, not many of us heard the word trust. Instead we were being taught to be responsible, solely responsible, for what seemed like an endless list of responsibilities (i.e. do your homework, make your bed, put your clothes in the laundry, do the dishes, etc., etc.)

Our parents served us well in teaching us to be responsible for many things in our lives. Unfortunately the word trust didn’t come up at all, or at best not very often. For most of us trust wasn’t a word we heard until we were grown up. We probably first heard the word trust in church, the work place and social settings. And when we heard the word trust and understood its meaning it took most of us quite a while to trust God or our co-workers or friends to help us with things we were responsible for. Now time has taught us that God is the only constant and perpetual trust in our lives. Do not let your hearts be troubled. We believe in God and his son Jesus, therefor his blessed assurance is with us now and forever!

Prayer

Dear Lord: Thank you for being a constant
source of trust during our journey in life and for your
never ending grace and love. In your name we pray.
Amen.
